How Not to Customize Redux: 1996 Ford Taurus “Space Ship”

Do you want a car that, "look deferent and feel deferent [sic]"? If so, this Australian tuner - whose skill at vehicle modification is in line with his comprehension of the English language - has the car for you...

The third generation Ford Taurus was not a very pretty car to begin with. Its ovoid shape, which extended to the taillights, rear window and even the dashboard was not especially attractive and made the car look like it was slowly melting.

This enterprising owner has attempted to fix that by adding an ill-fitting body kit, hood and roof scoops and a generous amount of black and gold paint (which makes the car look like a tin of Lyle's Golden Syrup). The result is...well, you can see for yourself.

Underneath that hideous façade the Taurus appears pretty stock with a 3.0 L V6, automatic transmission and 164,321 km (102,104 miles) on the clock. It looks like it even has the stock wheels and tires.

For the enterprising buyer in Blacktown, NSW, this...thing could be yours for a little over AU$1,500 - or at least that's the highest bid currently on eBay.

Extra-Terrestrial Vehicle: A Chevy Aveo of the Third Kind

Extra-Terrestrial Vehicle: A Chevy Aveo of the Third Kind

EVT - Chevy Aveo The Extra-Terrestrial Vehicle or EVT -we're not even kidding, that's the car's official name- is a futuristic-looking custom build created by Mike Vetter and his Florida-based company, 'The Car Factory'. It's hard to believe it just by looking at the EVT, but underneath that sci-fi outfit you'll find a Chevrolet Aveo stripped out of its body but not its heart.

EVT - Chevy Aveo Mike, who also works on Carrera GT replica bodies for the Porsche Boxster, claims on his website that buyers can opt either for an Aveo or a Boxster donor car. Somehow though, we find it hard to believe that anyone would give up a Porsche, no matter how many thousands of time they've seen Captain Kirk and Spock fighting off intruders from other planets.

But even in the case that the Chevy Aveo is the donor car, the EVT will most likely alienate you with its 'out of this world' price. We discovered that the Florida-based company has listed a completed EVT on eBay with a 'Buy it Now' price of just... $86,000. Cool but not $86k cool.

eBay Find: 1991 Volkswagen Golf Country Syncro

eBay Find: 1991 Volkswagen Golf Country Syncro

No, the Golf County pictured above isn't one of those garage-built crossovers that we find from time to time on eBay. This is a rare, stock to the bone model that was built in a limited run of around 7,700 units from 1990 to 1991. See, well before the Tiguan and Touareg SUVs came to fill the void in Volkswagen's "off-road" range, the German automaker tried to create an innovative hybrid-offroader based on the second-generation Golf model.

VW Golf MK2 Country - Carscoop Unlike many of today's faux-crossovers, the Golf Country used VW's Syncro all-wheel drive system combined with a heavily revised suspension and higher road-clearance to offer the vehicle true off road capability.

Other features included a skid plate to protect the engine area along with front and rear guard rails plus an externally mounted spare wheel carrier.

In Europe, the Golf MK2 Country was offered with either a 115HP 1.8-liter 8v gasoline engine or a 75HP 1.6-liter turbodiesel. This particular example found on eBay, is a '91 petrol model that is said to have been exported to Japan before finding its way to Canada in 2008. If you're interested, the 'Buy it Now Price' is US$7,200.
